Have a JPS 944.

Kinja'd!!!

A lot of people out on the interwebs are very proudly voting for a candidate that will provide a revolution on both sides of the aisle. One large topic revolves around the banks and the fed. One parties belief summed up well in this video here.

And many, if not most, of Bernies supporters will proudly support the exchange that goes on in this video. That being said, anyone who has any idea how the FED works would cringe during the entirety of this video. What Bernie is saying is nothing but rhetoric, and for the most is not comparable in anyway. It sounds scary, and he talks confidently as if he is speaking fact, but its simply not.

I would be shocked if I dont vote democrat this cycle, but please, all I’m saying is try your best to actually educate your self on the issue from a factual, and not an emotional stance.

Full Disclosure: I spend too much time on Reddit and have been annoyed by no end by the stereotypical Bernie Bros.

I’m not clear what part applies to the ‘not how the Fed works.’

I don’t care too much about all the “political revolution” stuff. Bernie Sanders isn’t bought out by any corporations and he never accepted any Super PACs. He’s the people’s politician. In office, he will support me, you, all of us, not Koch Industries.

Well he’s speaking to the chairman of the Fed about the Fed funds rate. Sounds pretty fed related to me.

I understand who we’re watching. When you say that’s not how the Fed works, are you talking about public access to info on liquid fund recipients?

So either you vote for a bought, two faced robot who says whatever is the majority opinion at the time, or you vote for someone who is at least interested in tackling the root cause of corrupt government. That includes fighting policies and laws working for big money instead of the people, which in turn leads to fighting all other issues and injustices at the core.

Would you feel comfortable dealing with a bank that applied for quick liquidity? Regardless of the reason for the loan a lot of people would quickly bail whether it’s justified or not.

And ever then I was more speaking to the interest rate comments.

I’m a Republican. However, I’m a firm supporter of the “Everybody Sucks” campaign.

I didn’t say don’t vote for Sanders, I’m just saying don’t blindly believe what any politician says. I have a feeling that Bernie supporters wouldnt just listen to something Clinton or Cruz would say, why do it with him?

I’ve watched both republican and democratic debates throughout this race. On occasion, I found myself nodding my head after something Kasich or even Trump has said. But Sanders strikes a chord with me because, like I said in my first reply, he’s my politician.

Also, totally misread your comment.

I was speaking to the complaints that the FED was engaging in low interest rate loans to depository institutions and that normal citizens don’t get access to such interest rates

I get that. But a lot of Bernie supporters are educated to some degree about how macroeconomics works. Just how much power the Federal Reserve has with absolutely no checks and balances over their actions. The history of the Fed is veryyyyy interesting to say the least. How they came to be was one of the major battles that corruption won.

Well, at least in my opinion, unless you can find a way to create a completely nonpartisan to create oversight on the FED it will essentially render its use null. Even with the drama over its existence it plays an important roll in the stability of the economy.

I like his ideas on social justice, human rights, and militarism. But I really don’t like his vilification of business and the finance industry either. The US needs to make it easier (read: cheaper) for international companies to do business, not harder.

For the transparency point 1) I wouldn’t care, as long as the FDIC still exists, and general oversight is in place to prevent unreported, prolonged insolvency

2)In a capitalist economy, an informed consumer increases the efficiency of the system. It’s detrimental to hide such transactions.

For interest rates, the system’s broken. I’ve long been an advocate of replacing the human component with a publicly disclosed algorithm. Remove the speculation.

Rates will/should always be lower to an institution, they’re middlemen after all.

One of his more extreme ideas is supplanting for profit banks with gov’t run banking administrators via post offices.

It would definitely bring some efficiencies, but is not compatible within a capitalist economy.

If you say so. If I knew of some organization led by former big bank CEOs and old money puppets while having power over the world economy, with no one else having power over them, I’d probably say that organization is corrupt. But that is for you to decide and accept/deny.

6% interest for a student with no money and 0% interest for financial institutions. The government can’t possibly expect a student to pay back his/her student loans worth in excess of $70,000 at 6% interest. That’s just absurd.

The reason why institutions pay near zero rates is because of the collateral that involved. You would pay a pretty low rate if you were willing to put your house on the line your rate would be a hell of a lot lower

Get him to talk about women’s rights and he folds like a bad hand, sounding just a ignorant and nuts as the rest of them.

Also I have family that are from and live in Ohio and have nothing but bad things to say about him.

That is economically sensible practice for a private firm, but not necessarily for a government during quantitative easing when the whole point is to stabilize credit markets and encourage lending. Additionally, I’d argue that funding student loans is a long term investment for the government, they’ll earn more tax revenue off of a better educated future populus.
